Job Title: Junior Administrative Law Judge / Hearing Officer (ALJ) - Remote Position
Location: Arizona
Job Type: Contract / Contract-to-Hire (2–3 months)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM MST)
Pay Rate: $20 – $45 per hour
Start Date: Staggered start dates (6–7 candidates per cohort)
Job Summary:
Seeking 15 Junior Administrative Law Judges / Hearing Officers to conduct administrative hearings related to social service programs.
This role involves presiding over hearings, reviewing case documentation, and drafting written decisions in accordance with applicable federal regulations and state laws.
This is an excellent opportunity for recent law graduates or early-career attorneys interested in administrative law and public service.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct administrative hearings via telephonic hearing systems.
Review case files and supporting documentation prior to hearings.
Preside over hearings in a professional and impartial manner.
Draft and issue written decisions based on evidence, testimony, and applicable laws.
Apply federal regulations and Arizona state law accurately in rulings.
Manage multiple hearings scheduled throughout the workday.
Ensure hearings and decisions meet quality and compliance standards.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD or AJD) from an accredited law school.
(Bar license NOT required).
0+ years of experience (entry-level candidates welcome).
Prior exposure to administrative hearings, preferably in social services.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze legal documents and draft clear, concise decisions.
Comfortable working in a remote environment.
Stable internet connection and ability to engage in telephonic hearings.
Additional Requirements:
Writing samples required at submission (less than 10 pages preferred).
Must be able to work Mountain Standard Time (MST).
Open to out-of-state candidates who can work MST hours.
Must be available for full-time hours.
