Objective: The position will provide hands on, engaged support to drive HR’s efforts on benefits, hiring, on-boarding, off-boarding, compliance, employee engagement, client engagement, firm culture, professional development and networking, training, and performance management. The HR Generalist will be a strong collaborator committed to excellence and collegiality. Ideal candidate should have 3+ years of HR experience working at a remote law firm with employees from multiple states.
Essential Functions:
- Administer health and benefit plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Ensure accurate record-keeping, proper deductions, and reconcile benefits statements.
- Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
- Assists with recruitment and interview process including posting job ads, identifying candidates, and interviewing.
- Facilitate successful on-boarding process, including generating offer letters and submitting background check verification, communicating with new hires, coordinating with internal team to ensure office/workstation is adequately set-up, verifying I-9 documentation, securing necessary documentation, scheduling and conducting new-hire orientation, and creating related materials.
- Assist with processing terminations and facilitating successful off-boarding process including compliance with local state/city rules.
- Champion firm culture that reflects our core values and lead employee engagement initiatives. This includes setting up periodic firm, attorney, or staff meetings; conducting employee polls/surveys; and creating employee recognition/incentives.
- Oversee performance review processes by setting up and facilitating performance management cycles (Check-Ins, Mid-Year & Annual Review Cycles, and additional feedback requests).
- Manage time off requests and internal time off calendar.
- Review, track, and document compliance for Attorney bar/professional admissions and Attorney Continuing Legal Education including other mandatory trainings (e.g. sexual harassment training).
- Assist with payroll processing and audits.
- Maintain HR documents including Employee Handbook.
- Maintain and update postings, files, and procedures that are in compliance with Federal and State statutes.
- Provide administrative support for all HR functions.
- Organize and coordinate firm/client events including researching locations, setting up activities, arranging logistics, submitting proposals, and ordering tchotchkes/promotional items.
- Creating marketing materials/brochures/flyers to promote client events.
- Arranging logistics for networking events and conferences.
Work Hours/Location/Salary:
- Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 5-hours daily (20-hours weekly) selected between 10:00am – 6:00pm (Pacific Time).
- Location: 100% remote. Must be willing to travel locally, as needed, to assist with certain firm events (1-2x a year).
- Salary: $30-$32/hourly
Skills Required:
- At least 3 years of relevant HR experience in a law firm.
- Experience with HR and payroll compliance in multi-states especially California.
- Experience with payroll systems software (i.e. ADP);
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams)
- Strong attention to detail

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required & PHR/SHPR Certification preferred.
